Wintertime at Col Vetoraz; a balance between waiting and activity

When the vine rests and the cellar is silent, the vineyard is dynamic. In wintertime, in fact, we do not lose the rhythm, in a continuous balance between waiting and activity. An only apparently labouriosness in contrast with the rest of the plants and the silence of the cellar, where the wine of the last harvest rests on its noble lees, a necessary pause to enrich itself in aromas and structure.

"Winter for the vine means above all rest - explains Loris Dall'Acqua, Col Vetoraz a.d. and winemaker - in fact the plant need to be left undisturbed in order to accumulate all the necessary energies to face the following spring awakening. This is therefore the ideal season to dedicate to all the works of arrangement of the vineyard".

All these activities are extremely important to prepare the vineyard in the best possible way, thus guaranteeing perfect health in order to allow it the maximum quality expression. The plant, like the earth, need skilled hands and competence. Even the waiting period of the winter months in the vineyard, therefore, is never completely static, but rather a vigilant slowness, which must be managed at its best, like Col Vetoraz do, to help make the difference, looking at the new vintages and the season of the restart always in the sign of excellence.
