There’s been a change of guard in the ‘art house’, namely in the Welcome Room of Col Vetoraz in Santo Stefano di Valdobbiadene (Treviso), which since last year has been hosting, on a rotating basis every four months, paintings and sculptures curated by well-known local artists, a project initiated by the company that combines wine and art in the name of excellence. Until the end of July, the painter Silvia Canton returns, this time exhibiting a creation with a sustainable message.
Named “Ephemeral Nature” , it is made of gold leaf and oil on canvas and cork, and is part of the series dedicated to recycling virgin cork. The work was created for the A(rt) message in a (Chianti Classico) bottle project, organized by the Chianti Classico Consortium and exhibited at Casa Chianti in Radda in Chianti last year. Here, Silvia Canton was chosen to reinterpret an urban work, a 3.5-meter bottle, entirely covered in cork granules with the support of Amorim Cork Italia. The project received the ARS Special Mention – Arte Riuso Sustainability as part of the 17th Arte Laguna Award 2023.
For Silvia Canton, painting is exploration, immersion, compositional freedom. It’s about reclaiming a voice that belongs to nature. It’s about reclaiming a voice that belongs to nature. In her works emerges the visceral bond that cork manages to generate, a tough material with a powerful personality, which the artist is able to nobly ennoble, making it the very soul of her creations. The cork recycling project was born at the end of 2018 from the desire to find a solution that would make her pictorial subjects more material, searching for an original material coming from Mother Earth. A new artistic language that finds its inspiration in virgin cork or first cork, the most impure, unusable for the production of corks but destined to be ground and transformed into technical granules for bio-construction.
Another opportunity, therefore, to reach the highest point of the denomination and to enjoy an exciting immersive experience that combines a visit to discover a unique and precious land, today a UNESCO Heritage Site, with a tasting of Valdobbiadene DOCG guided by trained and competent staff, admiring the powerful beauty of unique masterpieces.
