In what has been for many people a complex year, comforting expectations animate the work in the cellar. The musts of the grapes harvested in the 2022 harvest are now fermenting, and this process releases a symphony of intoxicating and recognizable aromas of flowers and fresh fruit.
The 2022 vintage was decidedly complex: winter and spring time have been characterized by low rainfall, average high temperatures and total absence of snow. A long period that resulted in a slightly anticipated vegetative start of the vine, but in a situation of water stress. Fortunately, the vine is an adaptable species and the trend was regular until flowering, which took place between the last days of May and early June. A favorable weather then allowed a perfect and homogeneous setting of the flowers.
The constant dry and sunny climate for the months of June and July has put a strain on the resistance capabilities of this ever so generous plant, which has developed clusters with grapes of less than average size, but with a perfect health status. The slight climate change of the first days of August saw cooler nights and some small but sufficient rainfall: this literally saved the vintage. The clusters have taken on a regular development, balanced and golden, as needed. The harvest of Col Vetoraz therefore began in the first days of September, the cool nights allowed a harvest in the best conditions of beautiful and perfectly ripe grapes.
"Therefore, considering this analysis as a whole - comments Loris Dall'Acqua winemaker and CEO of the company - our assumptions for the vintage are encouraging and undoubtedly higher than the expectations that such a complex season initially presented us.".
