Before diving into the harvest period, we share with you some of our considerations on 2021 vintage performance.
In terms of the territory overview “The production of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Docg area – explains Loris Dall’Acqua, a, d, and winemaker – this year was affected by the weather in May. The vineyards located in the historically early flowering areas budded before and precisely in correspondence with the period of bad weather, which resulted in a lower legation of the flowers. In areas where, on the other hand, due to the different position or altitude, flowering is normally postponed, this took place in a period coinciding with a much better weather, which resulted in a regular legation of flowers and regular production.”
Regarding the quality of the grapes, it is not conditioned by atmospheric and flowering events, but this year an exceptional quality level is announced because, although there was a warm period between the end of July and the beginning of August, but of short duration no later than two weeks, the vines did not suffer from water problems therefore it was not harmful to the plant and was not decisive for the qualitative result. It is true that during the year there were also unfavorable weather conditions, hailstorms scattered throughout the area, which, despite having unfortunately caused damage to specific vineyards affected, as we know are never very extensive and therefore do not compromise the situation of the entire territory. Recalling the wisdom of a popular proverb that goes like this; “Hail does not create famine, but drought creates famine” it is understood that there are other risky climatic situations, such as extreme heat or drought; therefore it can be concluded that the season is proceeding very well.
